    Pakistan Chiefs of State 2001

      On 12 May 2000, Pakistan's Supreme Court unanimously validated the October 1999 coup and granted Lt. Gen. Pervez Musharraf executive and legislative authority for three years from the date of the coup. On 20 May 2001, he declared himself President and was sworn into that office. Musharraf acts as Pakistan's Minister of Defense and Minister of Information, but he has not officially taken up the posts.
